What is good health?

Hi all,

My family and I are going through the process of emigrating to new Zealand from UK. Thinking about medical and wondering what they class as good health, or should I ask what do they class as not good health? Just wondering if there is a list of conditiond anywhere that are not accepted as good enough health for immigration and whether it makes a difference if conditions are well controlled on medication. Thanks

Hi there,

We've just made Resident status, and I can report that mild hypertension controlled by the appropriate medication was not an issue. Mind you, now I'm not living in the UK any more, maybe my blood pressure will return to normal of it's own accord! Best of luck with your move... :fingerscrossed:

Lane Neave provide a list of conditions here that are likely to fail the good health requirement:

This is what Immigration base all their decisions on when considering ASH.
Section A4.10 of the Operations Manual.

https://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/#46506.htm

Immigration are unable by law to decline an application on the basis of a person not having an ASH unless advised to decline by a Medical Assessor (MA).
Any medical result that does not meet or borderline meets the thresholds set by Immigration (which are tighter than normal) then the whole medical report will be sent to an MA to determine prognosis and calulate how much you are likely to cost the NZ Health System over the period of your visa. If that cost is too high they will advise a decline on the grounds of the person not having an ASH.
