Visas

Hi Just found this forum yesterday and it looks like a great place to get some advice about moving to NZ. Me and my boyfriend are looking to move to Wellington in 2009. Trying to save money until then!! We visited New Zealand last November and loved it and can't wait to move :)

I work in IT Support and was concerned about visas. Have most people applied for PR first or gone out on working visas and then applied for PR? Although I work in IT I haven't got a degree in IT. Will this count against me on visa/PR applications? I have got some Microsoft qualifications and hoping to get some more before we apply. But not sure if these will count?

Any advice?

Re: Visas

hi

this is the problem i have. i qualified as a graphic designer some 10 yrs ago and have certs. but never worked in it so no exp.
i have worked in tech call centres for bt, ntl, virgin, sky etc doing tech diags, currently work as service desk analyst. but again no certs but 10 yrs exp.

we decided to move to oz and prob going on a whv to allow us to keep money coming in for 12 mths until we gain a perm job and can get work permit to stay longer, then apply for PR.

all i can suggest is, email as many places as you can b4 u go, and say u got exp and SOME certs but not all.

I am looking into doing a few short courses to gain a bit of exp in graphics brush up on computers and web design before I go.

we are hoping to go as early as may, but we got no ties here like house or kids.

so all a mad rush.

will keep u updated if we gt any further.

perhaps consider doing the whv for 12 mths, and get work then do the same as us. if u got good experience ur emplyer may sponsor u to stay if u got a specialism like jave or sap etc

You can look on the NZ immigration website about what qualifications exaclty are accepted when applying for Residency. What qualifications does your BF have, if you have lived together for more than (I think) one year you can come as his partner if he qualifies.
Otherwise, as a temp measure look at a two year working holiday visa if you are under 30

good luck
