Visa question

Looked on INZ but can't find the answer

If I come in on a talent (accredited employer) work visa can I apply at any time for a permanent residency under the skilled migrant stream? I don't think my employer would wait for me to go through the full smv visa so want to get out there quick as but by the same note don't want to risk waiting two years and getting a no (especially if they change the goalposts again)

Re: Visa question

Not permanent residency (PR).
That is only open to those that have held RV for minimum 2 years but you can apply for RV via the skilled migrant stream as soon as you like using the written job offer points to increase your score by 50 and then another 30 if the job is outside of Auckland. There are a few requirements the job and employer has to meet, however since you are likely to be in a DHB job they are all accredited employers so will understand the rules and what they have to do for you to get RV.
You can start the RV visa application at the same time as the accredited employer visa. it'll just tick away in the background. You can also transfer the processing of it to NZ once you are here as it'll be managed by the London office in the UK.

"For your candidate to be able to claim points for their job offer, it must be for:

a skilled occupation
full-time work (at least 30 hours a week)
permanent employment for 12 months or more , or on a contract basis, if your candidate can show us they have a history of consistent contract work, a current contract for services, and that the work’s likely to be ongoing.
an employer who has good workplace practices and complies with immigration, employment and other laws.
Applicants whose jobs are on one of the skill shortage lists or are in an identified growth area are more likely to be successful."

Yes. You can apply for NZ residency under the SMC policy. Many have.
