Visa Problems

Had our ITA in since October now and we are having a bit of a problem. My wife has a job offer with Wellington South Hospital and is due to start next month. Our application was initially in my name under the skilled migrant category but with the wife now having the job and better points than me we were informed by London INZ that she would now be the principal applicant. That was back in November and we had to send off a couple more documents. We've now been told by our case worker in London that this should not have been the case but because they'd already taken the payment we have become a special case and they need forms from Welly to continue the process. Has anyone been in this situation? Can temp. work visas be issued at short notice?

Yes, you are a special case. I think what is needed is an offer of employment letter from your wife's prospective employer as well as her employer's approval in principle to hire or evidence showing that no New Zealanders could be found for the job.

Getting a work visa if you have the job offer, contracts and any police clearances and medical reports if necessary, can be processed fairly expediently. You could then apply for residency while here in New Zealand.
