To Visa or not to Visa?

Hi All
My partner is visiting NZ in Sept for 3 weeks to get a feel for the place for a potential move. He has family out there.
The flights we have booked are the following:
Manchester to Dubai, Dubai to Sydney, Sydney to Wellington
and returning:
Wellington to Melbourne, Melbourne to Dubai then Dubai to Manchester.
The travel agent said that we would need a Transit Visa to enter Australia, is this true? (the connection time is 3 hours).
Also will he need a NZ Visitors Visa?
Also he has just over 3 months on his passport, is this sufficient?
Any info is greatly appreciated

:)

No
When a visa is not needed
Some travellers do not need a transit visa if they:

depart Australia by air within 8 hours of the scheduled time of their arrival
hold confirmed onward booking and documentation necessary to enter the country of their destination
and
remain in the transit lounge at an airport.
Note: Travellers changing airlines in Australia are advised to verify with their airlines whether they will need to personally re-check their luggage as part of the transiting process. If so, a visa will be required to retrieve and re-check their luggage before departure.

Also will he need a NZ Visitors Visa?

If he can show onward journey out of the country before 6mths up he will enter as a visitor and passport will be stamped as that.

I do not believe so, from what it says on the Immigration site you need:
for at least 3 months beyond the date they intend to depart; or
for one month beyond the date they intend to depart, if the issuing government has consular representation in New Zealand that is able to issue and renew travel documents.

:)

hope that helps
