Can anyone please help with Visa info. We are trying to get out asap but I can't get my head around the visa's.
My hubbie is a brickie so was going to apply for a work visa but do you need a job offer before you can apply, and realistically how likely is he going to get that if he hasn't been interviewed face to face.
I don't think we can apply for a resident visa as he has an old criminal record, he's never been to prison but obviously its not helpful. We are a family of 5.
Is it worth me using an agency to help me do this?

no point using a agency as they can't help you get a visa if you are not entitled to one.
Bricklayer is on 2 lists

Canterbury skills list which is just a temp one for the length of a job offer.
or
Skilled list which is a 2 year temp work visa - work to residency visa - which could lead you to another visa after the 2 years and matching the criteria to uplift a residency from work visa.
to do this he would need a job offer from an accredited company and the job offer has to match the criteria stated on the immigration website to be able to uplift a visa.

Yes you need a job offer to get a visa to work. as for the criminal record it depends on what it was for and how long ago it was. it will also depend on the case officer and their supervisor as to whether is warrants no entry, so not something we could advise on as fact.
