Default Transiting Australia during covid-19

Hi all,

Hoping for some help in interpreting the rules with regards to transiting Australia. We're permanent residents of NZ (daughters a citizen). We got caught out in UK when the lockdowns all started and only now getting flight back. Our issue is conflicting advice from the NZ government (that say we have to do a three part process to transit Australia) and the actual Australian government website which seems to suggest we don't need any visa or ETA as we're only at same airport for less than 8hrs with onward ticket booked.

We're just worried that the NZ government knows something we don't lol. Has anyone recently went back to NZ and transited through Australia?

Cheers

That link has the current Aus Govt info
Foreign nationals transiting through Australia to another country don’t need to apply for an exemption to travel restrictions if they are booked on a connecting flight from the same airport and they are not going to leave the airport.

Thanks. That's what we looked at as well. The confusion was from an email sent out from safetravel. They said everyone including UK citizen had to do the three part process for transit. Then we looked at what you referenced and we agree with you that there's no requirement.

Ah well must have been mistake from kiwi government. Thanks for the reply. Cheers

I'm not sure what the three part process involves, but thats definitely the current info from the Government in Aus.As long as you stay airside, with an onward flight you'll be fine.
