SMC medical referral

Hi, can anyone please advise us we are going a bit nuts here! We put in our application for a skilled migratory visa last month and it passed the first person check immediately went for the second person check which we were told was almost a formality and yet 3 weeks later we are still waiting because they referred it to the medical assessor. Our son has a rare skin condition they obviously need to check out. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so was your app successful? The longer this goes on the more we think we are going to get turned down, 3 children under 5 a whole house to sort and 2 jobs = bit stressful

Thank you
Hannah

do you know why it wasn't referred by the original CO??

sorry if its a rare condition not sure how they view it. does the child need medical care, has the Consultant provided any medical documentation for your initial application??

Just get letters from GP/Consultant stating what condition is, treatment required and any prognosis. As much info as possible from the professionals!
My son got referred for Osgood Schlatters which is basically growing pains! We had to go to a consultant, have x-rays and pay a few hundred pounds :frown:.

my daughters was referred for Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome, we also got Consultants letter to state that she only required tablets at the time of episode and would most likely grow out of it. our referral was passed back as all ok, took a month but then again CO only worked 4 days a week and it was around Christmas time when everything grinds to a halt

I experienced a short delay similar to yours 4 weeks + with the medical certificate but this was because of a really trivial issue and also my own doing.

In the grand scale of things 3 weeks is not that long and I would expect INZ to be quite upfront and prompt about any additional information they would require.

Try to focus on the positives - no news is good news.

Kiwi wannabe. May I ask how long it took for your visas to come through in the end and we're you successful? If so hope you're out there now and settling in well. I have a rare skin disorder too! My son also was born with a rare disorder. So they're checking ours too. We look normal, aren't contagious ;-) are on meds and see a consultant once a year. Hoping and praying they don't see us as being a problem!

Our visa's took about 2 / 3 months after the expression of interest had gone through ok. Yes we are here now and all worked out ok, I since read that some people got legal help to challenge these medical declines and were successful so dont loose heart it will all work out.

Thanks I've just read that too. Fingers crossed it won't come to that. I feel so impatient. Hate waiting!

have you looked at cost of meds and consultation fees over in NZ?

GP visits are on average in the $40 mark(£20) each IF you are funded and if not $80 mark and thats for children as well before the cost of medication and consultant fees

Hi yes we've looked into it all thanks. It's costly but we've lived overseas before and are prepared for those extra expenditures. Just getting into London last time for an appointment cost £70. I've also had to travel over an hour to see a specialist here for my skin condition, again costly. At least the prescription are cheap! The NHS is great and we'll miss it but it wasn't always entirely free ;-) We've also had personal recommendations for consultants in Auckland so know (if we get there) we'd be well looked after :-)

I don't suppose you know how much sun cream is compared to the UK? I've been buying mine on prescription and it's an Aussie make I think. It's called Sunsense Ultra I think?!

Thank you! I didn't think to google it! Doh. Might have to change my search engine to google.nz if and when we'll need to value all our stuff. :-)
