Skilled Employment Definition
 

Skilled employment is employment that requires specialist, technical or management expertise obtained through recognised relevant qualifications and/or relevant work experience.

An offer of employment or current employment in New Zealand will be assessed as skilled if:
The occupation is included in part A of the List of Skilled Occupations held at Appendix 6 of the Operational Manual and the principal applicant can demonstrate that their offer of employment or current employment substantially matches the description for that occupation (including core tasks) as set out in the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) and has either:
- a relevant recognised qualification which is at, or above, the qualification level on the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications (the Register) that corresponds to the indicative skill level described for that occupation in the ANZSCO; or
- the relevant work experience that the ANZSCO indicates may substitute the required qualification; or
the relevant requirements specified in column three of the Long Term Skill Shortage List for their occupation (if their occupation is included in the Long Term Skill Shortage List; or
- five years of relevant work experience in a Skill Level One occupation.

Okay, this is from the Immigration site. But there are many definitions from DOL and all that are not clear. So if a person gets an offer of employment, if the job has an ANZSCO code that in Appendix 6 and candidate being offered the job has qualifications relevant to the job at Level 7 (already assessed by NZ Immigration), the offer would be skilled employment and accepted by NZ Immigration?

From what you write - yes.

If the occupation is in the list of skilled occupations then it is a skilled job.
If the person has the qualifications to match that occupation , then they are qualified for that work.

Notes:
If the occupation is not in shortage then no bonus points for that.

To get points for work experience , that work experience should match that of the occupation.

Hi Bevs,

Just one doubt..
Should the skilled employment be Permanent in order to apply for Residency or a contract/temp position (lets say 9mths to 1 year) should suffice?

So the bottom line is that if you MEET ANY criteria from the list, the job is done as far as proving the job is skilled employment. So long as you justify it to immigration. So even if you have an ocupation which is a little different from the main occupation in the application, if immigration has approved your qualifications for the job that you are offered (being skilled), and you have the work experience bonus points approved by immigration, the Immigration cannot stop you from doing that job. That's my interpretation unless there is something missing here.

But then again, even if your main occupation has some title, there may be MANY jobs with the same qualification requirements and work experience with different titles. My main query is all that immigration cares is that you have the qualification and relevant experience for any job you are offered as skilled. It would not be right for to suggest otherwise, unless I am wrong here.
