Hi Nick,

Best thing would be to go to NZ immigration website, locate the points indicator and fill in. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/pointsindicator/ . It will tell you if you would have enough points for them to consider your application. If you have, ask away and someone on here is bound to know the answer!

Ok, thats a bit of a mine field. But it seams, if I get a job offer, I/we qualify.

But filling in a form on a website does'nt fill me with confidence. Is there anyone I can talk to that will know for sure?

Bung up some more details please.

I see you are a self-employed engineer.
What qualifications do you have.
What engineering do you do.

Let's see what we can find for you

Go through the points indicator, if you have enough points submit it. You get plenty of info and it's almost an idiots guide to completing all applications. NZI tell you exactly what they want in the way of documentation (some aspects are open to interpretation, but basically uncomplicated process).

Best of luck

Hi Nick,

Do you want to apply for permanent residency or a temporary work visa to start with? You definitely need a job offer if it's a work visa you want but PR is possible without if you have enough points.

If it's PR you want and there's nothing unusual or difficult about your application then it is quite easy to do it yourself. If I can manage it then I'm sure anyone can!!
You could start by registering online on NZIS's website and start filling in an EOI. You don't have to pay and you can save it rather than fill the whole lot in at once. It also adds up your points as you go along so you know for sure how many you have.
If you get stuck just ask on here and someone will answer, it really isn't that daunting

Another possibility if you live near London is to go into NZ House and ask for advice. If you live fairly close then it's cheaper than ringing the phone line. 1pound/minute

Hope this helps.

The engineering I do cant really be pigeon holed.

It's connected to the construction industry, but not directly, It's a bit of a niche market. There is a company in NZ that are in the same trade, but I dont know how busy they are or if they would be able to offer me any work.

http://www.carstackers.co.nz/

http://www.multiparking.com.au/

The only qualification I have is a BTEC first in motor vehicle engineering, that and the normal GCSE's. Other than that, its all experience.

Will any on this help?
