Same job code, but different job titles
 

Starting Jan 2000, I have a little over three years of full-time equivalent work experience as a Systems Analyst and I have close to six years of full-time equivalent in other IT fields including the Systems Analyst mentioned above.

Systems Analyst is listed under long term skill shortage list and but it is not listed under short term skill shortage list. But there is a job title called Systems Specialist under short term skill shortage list and the job code is exactly the same as the one for Systems Analyst from the long term skill shortage list.

My question is, can I claim work experience in both categories, short term and long term lists even though the title does not match? Are they more interested on job responsibilities or job titles?

Can I claim more than 4 years of relevant work experience even though not everything I have done fall under skill shortage lists, but they were all IT related and I think that is what they are trying to say when they say relevant.

Note: Full-time equivalent = full-time + part-time (part-time is converted to full time, ex: one year of 20 hrs/wk = 6 month of full-time)

Hi

You can only claim for work experience gained in a job on the long term skill shortage list if applying as a skilled migrant. The short term list is not relevant to this. Where it asks about work experience in an area of absolute skill shortage it refers to the LTSSL only.

I think the immediate skill shortage list is for temp work visas only.

You have to give how many years work experience gained and also how many gained in an area of absolute skills shortage so I would imagine these could be different amounts as long as they are in a comparable labour market. Though someone else may be able to confirm this:confused:

You gave me enough information to guide me in the right direction. Some reason, I was thinking the "long term skill shortage list" has something to do with the "future growth areas" and the "immediate skill shortage list" has something to do with the "absolute skill shortage". I went back to EOI and point indicators and looked at it again and you were right, absolute skill shortage experience refers to the LTSSL.

As you said, I do not need to worry about the ISSL (I am going for skilled worker) and looks like I can claim points for both absolute skill shortage (systems analyst) and future growth area (information communication technology).
