Default Recognised Qualifications for Carpentry & Joinery

Hi
I am a Builder/Carpenter, fully qualified in Ireland and would like to move to NZ with my wife and 4 kids.

Could anyone tell me the level of qualification that is recognised in NZ for a Carpenter?

My apprenticeship was for 4 years and I have over 20 years experience in this field. I have a National Craft Certificate in Carpentry & Joinery and FETAC Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate in Carpentry & Joinery.

I am looking for any information if there is anyone that could it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Henry.

Kia Ora and welcome to this wee NZ BE forum.

To answer your question in part. Yes. You should be perfectly fine with this level of qualification and work exp.

What you might need to obtain is a PAR - NZQA pre-assessment for your FETAC trade qualification and apprenticeship.

That is because I can't see any of the trade quals gained in Eire as being exempt from this assessment. Whereas for the UK C&G to a certain standard is listed for example.

Please click this LINK & then follow 'Quals Exempt from Assessment' until you get to Eire.

Also take a look at NZQA PAR

Hi Bevs,
I appreciate your helpful information and the kind welcome.
I was hoping that I missed something before after reading the Qualifications Exempt from Assessment.
There is no getting around more paperwork or so it seems.

I just wondered if there was someone who went through this process before, as it would speed things up.
I believe that they request certified/orginal documents. Would stamped copies from a solicitor office suffice?

It is a real eye opener navigating your way through the Visa minefields.
I wonder how the pioneers succeeded??
Many thank's,
Kind Regards,Henry.
