Really confused WTR & PR - skilled migrants

hi everyone

i am just hoping that someone can shed some light,on where this is going.....

i have my ITA ready to hand in but immigration have advised that i hold onto it til the middle of December, when we should get our assessment details back from the Electical Workers Registration Board, if they dont arrive then i can send these on.

because we dont have a job and paul is unable to attend the course in london to the training for a provisional electrical licence due to work commitments, we have been advised that will only be allowed to apply for WTR visa. This is fine for us, but are we tied to an employer for so long? and also does paul need a job before we go over there?

also would we need to do our medicals again etc if after the given time we then could apply for PR ?

sorry for the multiple questions i am just so confused, and want to get it all right, and what i thought was a quite simple task of gathering paperwork etc has turned into such a stressful thing.

with regards

kirstie

Hi Kirstie

My understanding is that the WTR visa ties you to that employer. You will need to redo the medicals if you submit your ITA after the 3 month validity of the original medicals.

WTR Visa will name the employing company - so yes OH would need a job offer. Sorry, can't remember how long this ties you to that employer.

We came out in May on 30 month WTR visas (mine open, kids = student ones). We also put in our EOI in May and got picked from the pool at the end of May, received our ITA and got PR in July - which was great as our medicals and police checks were still valid.

Now that we have PR and RRV (returning residents visa) OH is no longer tied to NZ employer as was the case on WTR. However, his employer is a great, family orientated, caring firm and he loves his job he certainly has no intention of moving on at all!
