re-starting emigration
 

Hi All
Around Sep 2010 we looked into started procedings to emigrate to New Zealand as our son and wife and 2 grandchildren moved there in March 2008,our other son said he wanted to go aswell.As they needed to be there 3 years to Sponser us we were advised to get the ball rolling so to speak from a **************** as i was 55 and my wife 53 as there was a age limit to apply,i think 56 was mentioned,and we were told we would proceed under the Family parent class.Any way after couple of months or so starting proceedings and nearly £1.500 down my son and his wife began to have marriage problems and decided they could not sponser us,so we had no choice but to stop proceedings.Since then my son and his wife are now going through a seperation.
Our other son is also planning to emigrate over there as soon as possible with his wife through there job careers,her being a nurse.So we would really want to also be over there with our family.
So once again we asked our son if he would sponser us and he said he would do anything to see us get over there as it was his wife that had all the issues before.
So we got in touch with the people we started before who had kept our file incase we wanted to carry on in the future.They said that was fine with our son as long as he meets all the sponsership requirements.Now another £1.500 down i have just got all these forms to fill in i am very concerned at what i am paying all this money for as i can get all this imfomation and forms etc free from emigration site,so what is it they do to warrant these large fees,as i have recently been told by the time i am done could get as high as £5.000 to £8.000 by the time its done and still no guarantee on getting in.
Now on first applying we had concerns about the Health side as since 2006 i had to pack up work due to a Ankle problem and 4 operations later,last one in Nov 2010 i have just finished physio etc and been told there is no more they can do for my problem which is mainly a pain issue when walking or standing to long.This mainly the reasons why we were suggested to use the ****************.
My son reckons i should stop using these people and do the forms myself etc,as they do nothing more for you than you can do yourself.
So at the end of all this what i really am asking opinions on is should we really stop using the **************** and go it alone or not,as it does seem to be using up a lot of our savings and so far whats been done i could have got free from NZ emigration site.i also have heard that when you apply yourelf that if you do yourself and you do not get in they do not tell you the reasons why even if maybe any the forms filled in incorrectly,could be another reason to use emigration people.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear things haven't been going too well for your son and his wife.
I don't know much about the Family parent category but as you say all the details are on the website. If I were you I would read up on what the process involves and what needs to be done. If you feel that you can do it yourself then go for it. I know there have been a few threads in the immigration section about parent visas so do a search for them or ask your own questions.
There generally seems little advantage to using an immigration advisor if you're ok with the process. It will take some organising but I can't imagine it would be any harder than doing a normal residence application. The fees advisors charge are astronomical for what they do.
I've not heard about not hearing the reasons for a rejection if you don't use an agent- who told you this [was it the agent?:sneaky:]
My opinion from reading posts from others is that they seem to know why their application has been rejected or points have been removed, not sure why this should be different for a parent application. Though as I said I really don't know a lot about this type of application. My parents will probably never want to move here, your sons are very lucky:)

You've answered your own thoughts in your post. Forget that particular agent and stop throwing good money after bad.

We can help you here if you get stuck witht he forms and stuff. Also , there are some quality Immy consultants out there who specialise in NZ Immy matters . You could use one of them down the line if needs be.

Is your son an NZ resident?
How long has he been in NZ?

Regarding having your application declined by NZ Immigration. I haven't found NZ Immigration to be monstrous. Even if your application was turned down, they would probably tell you. There's a poster on this site, Stormer 999 who abstained from alcohol for a month so his liver function tests would be correct. When the results came back they were not good enough for NZ immigration and the nurse who took the blood sample has agreed to do it again after a futher month of abstinence from alcohol. You may wish to look up this post as I'm paraphrasing.

I applied last month in Parent Category, we did all the forms etc ourselves, it took us about 2 months in all to get everything together. We went to New Zealand house in Piccaddilly, when we got there we took a ticket and we were called to a desk and the lady went through meticulously all our documentation to check that everything was there - she said the most important requirement for this application is that your child will financially support you so that you are not a drain on their health and benefit systems. She was really helpful, she did say that they may need more documentation relating to me and my husband's relationship (I did not realise you need to prove you are living together and I only gave one recent utility bill) but she said not to worry, they will ask for that later in the process, we paid our £750 and left, about 2 weeks later we got a confirmation letter and it also requested a couple of documents that were missing from our pack which were the radioliogists report from the x-rays, I had not sent them as they were attached to the invoice and did not realise they needed them!

I think you must try to do this yourself and I am sure many of the great folks on this brilliant forum can help you if you are stuck - I am already making friends and its going to be at least 3 years before I get down there!!

I agree with wendy-woo, if you can get to NZ house in London they are really really helpful.
Although not going through a parent request for PR ourselves and initially speaking to a Agent then speaking to NZ house we found that some of the info the Agent was giving us was not exactly right and things seemed to be presented as tougher than they actually are. I would personally say ditch the agent for now and liaise with NZ house here and get your son to liaise with the local immigration office to him for info. and the way forward
