Get the ball rolling, don't forget you'll need your police checks, these can take up to 40days. If you apply for EIO, then ITA, at what ever stage you get a job offer. You just contact immigration let them know, then they will push yor application through. If it's not on shortage, they may initially give you a visa rather than PR. But that gets you in, then you can apply for PR when you're here.
Hope this helps.

If you have 140 points you'd be automatically selected from the pool.
One way of making your chances better is to fly on out here and get someone to hire you. The prospective employer only needs to show some documentation that a local Kiwi couldn't be found for the position and that they'd like to hire someone like you. Once you have the work permit you'd probably find it easier to get the points you need to get selected from the pool. Also, it may give you some time in the New Zealand workforce and help you to decide if New Zealand is the right choice for you. Anyway, that's what I did. It only took me about four-and-a-half years of farting around on a work permit to decide that New Zealand is okay and that I'd like to stay here awhile longer. I arrived here 02 January 2002 and we finally, after much slacking, received PR 11 July 2006.
By the way, I'm only a lowly TEFL teacher and my wife's a sewing machinist. So, like yeah, if we can do it I don't see why you couldn't.

Hi There and welcome to the site.
I hate to dampen your spirits somewhat but I wanted to let you know mine and my husband's experience as our situation is similar to yours and I feel that the advice you have received so far (no offence to those who have tried to help!) has not been quite appropriate for your specific situation.
We submitted an EOI with 105 points as we thought this would be fine, however as neither of us have jobs on the skills shortage list (both Graphic Designers) we have discovered from speaking to someone at NZIS that we will NOT be selected unless their requirements change. We have been in the EOI pool for 5months now and have no chance of being selected unless we can get job offers to boost our points.
Here is a link to the selection criteria that they are currently working to:
http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/...oncriteria.htm
We have been assured that an EOI of between 100 and 140 points will only be chosen if it meets one of these criteria unless a job offer is applicable. Although very few do get chosen without any of these options but it will be the highest points that go first and being so close to 100 as we were I'm afraid your chances would be very slim.
As I said, I am so sorry to sound all doom and gloom but I didn't want you to get your hopes up and pay to submit your EOI when it could be a waste of money. I would suggest that if you don't meet any of the criteria they require you should get in touch with NZIS by email or telephone (if you can face the bill!) and ask for some advice as to the best route you can take.
We were lucky enough to be able to meet with someone from NZIS at one of the New Zealand Expos and got some great advice. Luckily we are both under 30 and so are able to go over on a working holiday visa with a view to securing work and applying for residency from there.
You may find that you are able to secure employment which would as good as guarantee you getting PR. Get searching on www.seek.co.nz and start applying. If they are happy to do telephone interviews in your industry then you could be laughing, or you might be able to head over for a reccy with loads of interviews lined up.
Whatever happens if you want to make this move badly enough then you will make it happen for yourselves. There may be tough times along the way, we have all been through those, but I am sure you will get there in the end. The main thing is to research, research, research and keep asking questions on here - it is a lifeline.
I really hope I haven't put you off at all, there will be an option that is right for you I'm sure. I wish you all the best of luck and hope that you find the path that is right for you so you can enjoy a happy new life in NZ with the rest of us!

As I said though, there is bound to be a way round it. The most likely is a job offer. Just don't give up, you'll find a way!

Sorry, I really don't want to sound so negative, I just don't want people wasting money and time thinking there is much of a chance this way. The best advice I can give is to contact NZIS and see if they can offer any suggestion.

Of course, it might not turn out as planned, but what the hell, be brave. If it doesn't work out you could apply to work as an English teacher in Korea or China. They'll take just about any English speaker with a pulse.

Teacher me never :scared:
Just phoned NZ House London - and they said they do look at applications with 100 points or more so its worth a shot. Also , I never knew you do not stay in the pool you have to re-submit after each pool is drawn!!!
