Qualifications question

Hi there, this is my first question on this site so here goes.

My partner (main applicant)and I intend to apply for residency to nz when she finishes her degree in nursing. (November)

I have 8yrs experience in IT installing data cabling and for the last 2yrs have been running my own company installing copper cat5e and cat6 as well as fibre optics and wireless networks in commercial premises including schools, police offices etc.

I have no formal qualifications in these areas and am therefore about to sign up for the BICSI technician course as well as the BICSI rcdd course.

Could someone please let me know if these qualifications will do me any good in NZ. I intend to start my own company over there but may have to find work until we find our feet.

Any suggestions that you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Ewan.

Re: Qualifications question

It might be worthwhile your partner contacting the Nursing Council of New Zealand (you can e mail them) and asking about experience etc as I think I have read somewhere that most places prefer nurses with a minimum amount of post registration experience - I don't want to put a dampner on things but the more info you have the better prepared you are.:)

My husband and I are both nurses and we e mailed various hospitals and just sent them our CVs cold without applying for jobs. Due to the shortage of nurses we were offered jobs very quickly with 'phone interviews and our job offers have speeded up our application process. Your OH will also need to register with the Nursing Council of NZ as she will get additional points for this. They ask for a transcript of training from the university, which costs money, but due to problems with our university we asked the NMC to do it and they don't charge and they do it pretty quickly.

Can't help with the IT questions but I'm sure there have been previous IT threads so it may be worth your time to scroll back if you can be bothered - otherwise someone in the know will get back to you.

Good luck

Thanks for that donnaf.
Were pretty sorted with regards my partners nursing experience requirements etc. I was really more concerned with finding out if these BICSI qualifications are recognized properly in NZ before I spend a shed load of money on them, I have also been in touch with a data installations company in Auckland who have told me I will get work no problem once were there, which was reassuring to know.
Thanks again for your reply.

In case you haven't got it already : Here's a link for the NZ list of accepted qualifications,http://www.immigration.govt.nz/nzis/...anual/7960.htm

once you qualify you can also ask the NZQA if your qualifications are recognised. http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/
