Hi All

My husband and I are usually on the Australian forum as we are in the middle of our immigration at the mo but I decided to find out a few things about New Zealand for my friend.

My best friend and her partner and soon to be 5 Year old daughter are thinking of immigrating to New Zealand. He has an uncle who works in the prison service and thinks that it is going to be possible to get a sponsor visa.

If they get things sorted with the sponsor do they need to have the normal checks done, for eg. police checks, medicals, references, etc?? What other info can you give me regarding this.

I have told them many things about what we have done and what we have been asked for but we are going on a 175 skilled visa and was wondering if things worked differently for NZ.

Also we live in Nothern Ireland and they are having trouble getting a flight from Belfast to New Zealand. Has anyone any good websites that they could use to find cost of flights etc. They would be flying into Wellington.

One more thing..............Has anyone moved to Wanganui?????? Anyone that has any information about this area I would love to hear it especially for jobs for her and schooling for thier daughter.

Thank you so much in advance for anyone that helps me.

Hope you dont mind me hi-jacking this forum

We don't mind which forum people are on. Do you friends not have internet access to post themselves?

Is your friend's partner the prison officer or is it his uncle? The Department of Corrections have a site recruiting prison staff. I'm afraid I don't know much about family sponsorship.

International airlines tend not to fly into Wellington itself as the airport isn't suitable for big planes. International flights go to Auckland or Christchurch. I'm sure others will be along soon to answer more of your questions.

Hi Alison
Thankyou so much for the reply. It is my friends partners uncle that is in the prison service in NZ, my friends do have the internet and I have told them to join this forum and ask as many questions as they want, I have told them they will get alot of fun and useful information from it but they just dont seem overally interested. I think the forums are great and I will certainly keep talking about it so eventually they can join themself.
I dont think his uncle is going to sponsor him but has told him they are recuriting in the prison sevice at the momment.

I think they are under the impression that Wellington airport is the nearest one to Wanganui with less travel time for their daughter.

I suppose I thought I would post a few things for them in the hope that will get to grips with forum and start posting themselve.

They have asked my husband and myself so many questions but we can only answer a few as we are applying for a completly different visa type.

many thanks again

I don't think the family sponsorship will work if that is what they are thinking. Perhaps they are thinking of skilled migration where the employer sponsors their immigration.

Yes, they will need to do all of this.

They will need to have a combination of skills, qualifications and experience to qualify for the skilled migrant scheme. Please have a squiz at this wiki -> http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Catego...nd_Immigration

I haven't any idea about Australian immigration procedures.

Try www.kayak.com or www.sidestep.com for good flight deals.

Thankyou very much happynz for your time and information.

I think that they are getting an apllication form emailed from the prison service therefore the prison service will sponsor them (I THINK).

Many thanks for the links I have passed these on.

Thanks again

Wow! That's an expensive commute, unless your friend is a pilot and flies to Auckland anyway.
