Is it possible from the ISSL list to get PR?

Hi I was just wondering, is it possible to get PR if your occupation is on the ISSL list? if so how long does it take and what is the process to get there.

Thanks in advance :)

It all depends on the occupation. The ISSL is an aid for NZ employers to employ overseas labour .That's really what it's for.

Not all the occupations on that list are deemed as skilled for PR purposes.

edit post here......

Ah ! I have just realised you are possibly talking about HGV truck driving.

This occupation isn't seen as skilled by NZIS so you would be unable to apply for residency under the skilled migrant category.

If your OH could find a job offer with what is called an 'accredited employer AND that position offered him full time permanent work at around $55K pa for a 40 hour week , then you could go for a Work To Residency' visa. That would gain you NZ residency after 2 years.

Please be aware that few truck drivers earn anything like this unless they are tanker drivers. I've only known one gain residency via this route. They rest have remained in NZ under temporary work permits which isn't really a way to permanently settle.

That's very useful to know. It's a slim chance then but could work. the OH has 24 years of driving all classes of truck as well as coaches (can't use the coach license in NZ) and ran his own Transport company for 5 years with 15 HGV's and over 20 employees, so he's very qualified just needs to find the "Right company" we also did two years in Canada where he drove to the USA every week hitting a target of 12,000 miles per month, so he's also experianced driving different road conditions and countries.

I will pass the information on to him - Thank you :)
