Poo to the NZQA pre-assessment

What a waste of $75bucks. They couldn't assess the hungarian qualification. AAarrrggg!

On the information available the New Zealand Qualifications Authority
(NZQA) is unable to assess this qualification as comparable to a level
on the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications, at the
Pre- Assessment Result stage.
So , I take it that means a full assessment at loads $$ as we need a level for the EOI. Poo !! and double poo with splats. This family has so little money as it is.

:curse:

That's a real bummer BEV :mad::mad::mad:

I take it they didn't give a reason  they are sooooo frustrating at times :frown:

I hope for their sakes ( and yours) that you manage to sort it

I'm busy trying to get the EOI team in New Zealand to give me a code for Level 3 Cabinet Making. Apparently Level 3 trades are acceptable, but they don't seem to list a code on the LTSSL??!! :(

I bet you're dying to say something stronger than poo :sneaky:

Sorry about the outcome - the pre-assessment seems to be of very limited value and in this case, just a waste of time and money.

Good luck in getting them sorted.

Re: Poo to the NZQA pre-assessment

I firmly believe that the level 3 trades are perfectly acceptable for 50 points Red Monsk. After all you are skilled people who can fill skilled jobs. NZ needs you.

Having looked into the Hungarian quals myself, I feel they are a level 3. They are a perfectly straightfoward plumbing qualification with three years training underpinning it.

My belief is that NZQA just have a list and for $75 bucks , they cast their eye down that list and if it isnt on there - hard cheese. I do think they should state that not all countries quals can be assessed via PAR. Its extremely likely that they had nothing relating to Hungary as comparable , so stated they couldnt assess. All that was needed IMHO was a fax to the tech college in Hungary and then a translation of the reply confirming 3 years training at the plumbing trade. So frustrating.

I really wish NZIS, NZQA and the PGDB for that matter would simply publish more comprehensive details of what is acceptable of the overseas qualifications. They must have lists already in place .
They could still insist on buying an assessment so they get the $$$ into their coffers but at least we wouldnt all have to dance in the dark so much.

How about wasting $400 + translation fee's and nine months of procrastinating. To have Melissa's social worker qualifications to be rejected?

As someone who specialised in the care of troubled teenagers, how much does NZ need her skills?

What reason were you given in the end?

This is my fear with the Hungarians. That NZQA simply won't " get it " .

Couldn't agree more about her skills being wasted when they are needed..

Phil has over 30 years gas fitting experience and UK quals out of his earholes yet NZ won't allow him to gas-fit and say he needs more training because he didn't renew CORGI membership which lapsed a few months before we came out. There is a shortage of gasfitters here. How mental is that !

The NZQA fee is $450 bucks now and this is a huge sum of money for this family. They don't have 9 months of work permit left anyway.

Well it did not help having some slack jawed 20 something public servant with the IQ of pond slime, looking after our case.

After endless phone conversations and research (on our part!). We provided, names of qualification bodies, complete with contact details, letters from these bodies explaining in plain English what the certification criteria were.

I can't remember what the final wording was, but it boiled down to Melissa being trained at the Swedish equivalent to a community college, not a University. Although in Sweden and Europe, her diploma is recognised as a degree equivalent, not so here.

We could have appealed, but were really fed up with it and had applied for PR, using my work experience instead (scraped in with 100 points).

It took Mel a while to get over the experience, she had been holding out for a while for a positive result. Thankfully we both have had a career change and work in the wine industry now.

So I am sorry Bev, no good news for you I am afraid, from our experience.

Good luck!

Try your local MP. A mate of mine, got a immigration issue sorted by his MP. You never know!

 and  again.

So true  Thats what I meant about NZQA not getting it.

Thanks. I may well talk to an MP. I am also thinking about contacting the Hungarian consulate.

BEV is it worth trying to get some 'free' advice from one of the immigration consultants or maybe a recruitment agency??:confused:

I must say the PAR does seem to be a little money-spinning exercise! :sneaky: Our CO wasn't particularly helpful in suggesting that we went for the full assessment and that SOMEHOW it would miraculously change from a level 3 to 4!!

Have done the Quick Check points indicator thing again and it's still giving us the same amount of points. So much for the new point scoring system! :(
Hubby's Level 3 qualification was worth 50 points, 30 points for his experience and 10 points for his age! I just don't know how we are meant to accrue the extra points needed! As you say, they need hubby's skills, why do they make it so difficult!!! :(

Re: Poo to the NZQA pre-assessment

The whole NZQA thing is a joke. My wifes chefs qulifications had to be NZQA assesed yet when it comes down to it most NZ employers have not got a clue what exactly her qualifications are.
I remember rightly we paid 250 quid (I hate US style keyboards no pound signs) to be assesed to Kiwi standards and half her stuff was not recognsed.

What she also found annoying was thant even after the NZQA equavilant rating is some of the qualifications had to be resat because employers did not recognise the NZQA conversion.

I think pretty much what ever you do now in NZ has to be NZQA certified. I have a NZQA passenger certificate, Drivers logbooks, my First aid certificate has to be redone to NZQA standards etc etc

Like been said its just another money raising exercise, trouble is if you want to come to this country you jump those hoops and dont question how high.

Hi BEVS here

I found you on this forum just like you said you would be here. I can't PM you without 3 posts so thought I would try this.

I have posted several emails from PGDB (it has only taken me 4 months and 10 emails to get one answered!!!)on the other forum. I would be happy to post here also if it will help anyone. And by help anyone, I mean--help anyone see that PGDB is a joke!!

BTW, to anyone else reading, I am the wife of an American plumber and we have been getting the run around trying to find a way for my husband and I to get into NZ. The bottom line for us is that they don't even want to assess his qualifications. No one will do it--they keep passing the buck.
NZQA won't do it. PGDB won't do it (because we are American and not covered under ANZRA) and now I am trying to find out if the ITO people ???? will say if he has enough credits for a National Certificate in Plumbing.

Also BTW, my husband has 12,000 hours (documented) of training and has the highest certification here and owns a company etc etc etc. Apparently, NZ does not want us. Because we are American??? I mean, at least we speak English!!

We have concluded that NZIS has put "plumber" on the list but PGDB doesn't really want outsiders (maybe just Americans??) and so has made it impossible since 30 July to actually get in. Problem solved for PGDB.

I think I will pop over to the Australia site for a look-see.

Sorry, but what are the chances of a NZ or UK plumber getting into the US?

Zero.

Because they have to be US qualified and licensed.

Sound familiar?
