Police certificate from India

I'm a UK citizen hoping to move to NZ within the next 6 months. As I've spent nearly 2 years in India during the last 10, I'll need a police certificate from here but Indian bureaucracy can be painfully slow - a friend has been waiting 7 months for his, and still no sign of it. Has anyone had to do this and, if so, any hints/tips on how to get the results within a sensible timescale? Is there anyone specific I can contact etc?

I'm currently still in Delhi, but will leave within the next 3 months so would like to get it done while I'm still here so I have it within my grasp and am not reliant on a courier to get it to the UK/NZ. It would also mean I can check they've given me the correct document.

Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks.

How far along in the process are you? some certificates like medicals and possibly police checks (?) only last for a certain amount of time before they expire and you will have to apply again. I personally would find out how the certificate lasts and work out your time scales before paying out any monies.
