Police certificate

Hi. I have just got a question back from NZ immigration, regarding my visa.
It says please provide an explanation as to the reason, no live trace on my police certificate.

How do I explain this please

Re: Police certificate

you have convictions that have been stepped down so they want to know about them

You have been previously convicted of something in your past. It will always remain on your record but is reduced after a certain number of years.
When I received my police certificate it said the same thing.
I sent an explanation with it stating that 13 years previous (when I was young and stupid.......well, when I was young at least as I'm still stupid :p ) I was convicted of drinking & driving, GBP 250.00 fine and 12 months ban from driving.
Immigration accepted it no problem. Didn't question it.
