Default Plan to lodge EOI, help needed

Hi all,

I am thinking of lodging my application to EOI, however, I have had some queries that I need to clarify before I do that. I would appreciate if anyone can help to solve my doubts.

My background:
Accountant - CPA Australia - Do I need to obtain assessment letter from NZICA ?

My wife:
Chartered Company Secretary - Malaysian Institute of Chartered Company Secretary - Based on my understanding, her qualification needs to be verified by NZQA.

Points to be claimed:

(1) Age - 36 Years Old - 25 Points;
(2) Qualification - Graduated from OZ, level 7, 50 points;
(3) Working Experience - 10 years + on accounting and its related field - 30 points;
(4) Partner skill - 20 points (Subject to the verification report from NZQA, and IELTS Examination with overall Band 6.5 and above).

I read the EOI leaflet and understand that if you work in comparable labour market, you can gain some points on this area. What's the point allocated to this area if I am working in comparable labour market ?

Hi - I don't think you need your CPA assessed by NZICA. I doubt whether you will get any more points on top of your degree, but NZICA should already recognise the CPA. Have you looked at their website under 'Recognition of overseas qualifications'?

Ok. I have read the website. Based on the above, it means that I will be able to squeeze myself in the EOI but I don't see there is a chance for me to get selected since I don't have a job offer from NZ ?

That depends on the current level of points of everyone else in the pool. A job offer is a big help, but that is the eternal catch 22 situation. Good luck.

Sorry, what is "Ethernal catch 22 situation ?" mind to tell ?

I was using the points indicator to check my point, I do have some queries on that, would you mind to enlight me ?

QUALIFICATION:

1. Do you have a 'recognized basic qualification' ? YES, DEGREE FROM UWA, Australia
2. Do you have a 'recognized basic New Zealand Qualification' ? Is this one related to the 1st one ? can I claim yes ? or my qualification must be earned from NZ in order for me to claim this ?

RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE
1. Was the work experience gained in a 'comparable labour market' or an 'area of absolute skills shortage'?
Malaysia is catogorized as comparable labour market, so I tick yes, it seems that I can have additional 5 points by doing so.

PARTNER
1. Do you have a partner ? -- yes (no point awarded)
2. Would your partner have the required English proficency to qualify as a principal applicant ? --> yes
3. Is your partner currently employed, or has he/she been offered employment in NZ --> YES, she is currently working in Singapore as Company Secretary.

4. Does your partner have a 'recognized basic qualification' ? --> yes, subject to NZQA's verification.

If i can earn some marks from the above questions, I will have 150 points instead.

Thank you for your posting. It helps !!

In this case, I should be getting 125 points at this moment.

Look like the chances of getting the ITA is rather slim, based on the previous pool results.
