Past medical issues?

Hi, i've been reading threads about peoples medical worries and I noticed BEVS posting a link to the Medical Examiner Handbook...so naturally I had a nosey at the questions they ask you...and I was wondering how many of you have had medical issues in the past that they ask you about and has it affected the outcome of your medical?

At one of the NZ expo's we've went to, one of the men speaking at a seminar from Immigration New Zealand, he clearly stated that they don't care about your past, but what is going on now.

Naturally we're worried as you all are when it comes to medicals.

Thanks, Stacey

Re: Past medical issues?

If you have ever had an operation you will get referred as a matter of course to the medical assessor. This even includes c-sections and tonsils and stuff! The officers at immigration are not allowed to make any medical decisions, and unless you tick "no" to everything, and have BMIs less than 35, normal blood pressure, and average cholestrol, and your other tests at medical are perfect, you will be referred. However, this is normal - not to panic over - so just go with the flow :)

In reailty, apart form BMI over 35, there are not really that many conditions that keep you out. Hep B,C, big stuff like that is a problem, but read the section A10 of the stuuf on NZIS and the excluded conditions are clearly set out.

EDIT sorry, seems this link is not current but it gives you a link to the current policy

Thanks Jan for that reply. My mum is fretting over the medicals due to her past medical history but all that stuff has been sorted years ago and isn't giving her bother now.

I've noticed over your various threads about your problems and you have gotten into NZ so that's somewhat of a comfort :)

All our BMI's are under 35 so it's all good in that respect.

I'll have a nosey at that link, thanks again!
