Passport expiring

Hello,

I am going to apply for work visa for myself and my partner and student visa for my kid.
My kid's visa is going to expire on November, 2012.
Once we are in NZ, then we are also planning to apply for PR.
Can someone please advise me whether NZIS would object as the passport is getting expired even though that's more than a year away?

Thanks.

Re: Passport expiring

Mine was due to expire in September of 2012. Rather than have the stress of yet something else to sort out later down the line, I just got it renewed now. They will credit the new passport with up to 9 months of validity that the old one was still valid for so you'll lose some of the time but hey, it's kinda worth it if you've got the time.
Only thing is, once you change the passport, you might need to re-apply for your kid's visa as the passport number and other details will have changed.

Hi,

Can't remember but I think you have to have at least 6 months left on your passport - check with the immigration website but in theory you should be all right.

Thanks for your replies.

This is what is mentioned in the NZ immi website :-

You must send your passport or travel document with your application. It must be valid to at
least three months past the date you plan to leave New Zealand.

But in our case when we are thinking of a PR eventually, what will be the returning date at all !!
