Getting a certified copy of a passport is easy. Go to a solicitor with a photocopy of it and ask them to certify it. I paid 2pound 5 years ago [and in London!] so it shouldn't be expensive. Phone around for costs.

As I'm now applying for a temporary partnership based visa, I am confused as to whether I need to supply a birth certificate. Does anyone know?

Apparently no birth cert needed. Just called the £1p/m hotline...
