Partner of NZ citizen Work Visa

Hello there,
My Kiwi husband and I have been married for 4 years, together for 6.
We’ve got return flights booked, arriving in Auckland end of January for what was supposed to be a ‘recce’ in preparation for a future move (no fixed date, but within 18-24 months). On that a basis, I haven’t started a Visa application - work or residence.
As I ‘tested the water’ employment-wise, the response was rather positive and I have a second interview for a really good role, with one of NZ’s main players in the field. Bringing our move forward is definitely an option but I am now having a major panic over the Visa issue!
Questions:
- Anyone out there went through a similar situation?
- Is my plan to apply for a Partner Work Visa now, and a residence one at a later date, a good one in terms of timescales? (I.e. getting a work Visa ASAP so that I can hopefully start working from beginning of February?)

By the way, my potential future employer is not on the accredited companies list. Pity as their main competitor is!

Thank you in advance :-)
