Partner on W2R visa

Partner on W2R visa
Question as I can't seem to get clarification on inz website - if I obtained a work to resident visa through an accredited employer, then my partner came to NZ on that visa, Would he be eligible to get any type of work? Or would he need to look for work within his skills/occupation category?
