Parent Visa Update

I joined the forum back in June 2013 when I was looking for help re our move to NZ and started a thread called Help Please
http://britishexpats.com/forum/immig...please-795936/
at the time I was surprised and disappointed by the lack of knowledge out there re my questions.
However I thought I should give an update which might prove useful for anyone else looking for answers on the forum.
The key bit is we now have residency stickers in our passports!!!
My issue at the time was to do with bringing our household goods out to NZ when we were coming over on the parent 3 year visitor visa and despite scouring the NZ immigration website I was left with the wrong impresssion. My experience is that you can bring a container with all your stuff on a visitor visa, the downside is that doing it at this point rather than waiting until we got our residency stickers meant we had to pay import tax and GST but these amounts were not prohibitive when taken into the total cost of container shipping/airfares/visas etc.
We knew we could only send in our residency applications after our daughter had been resident for 3 years, luckily we found out just in time that the 3 years started ticking when she got her residency stickers in her passport rather than when she actually arrived in NZ.
Our timings went as follows:-
Aug 2013 arrived in NZ on 3 year visitor visa (max 18 months staying)
Mar 2014 submitted EOI (after daughters 3 years on her residency sticker)
May 2014 EOI selected in quarterly draw (all submitted Tier 1's were being selected in each quarterly draw up to this point - we haven't checked since)
1st June ITA rec'd
21st June Residency Application posted (we had already filled in the application prior to receiving ITA but then they wanted more recent police checks, hence the delay) - also for reference we didn't need new medicals as our originals from the visitor visa were still valid, can't remember now how long they are valid for but you can find this on immig website.
28th Oct - finally a case worker was assigned
25th Nov - stickers in passports
We didn't use immig advisors. If we had they may have advised us to apply using my pension (guaranteed income category of Tier 1) rather than funds which I mistakenly thought would be simpler as we could show them sitting in term deposits in NZ banks. However proving you are not a money launderer can be very laborious and trying.
Anyway I think that is all the facts, in practise we have had a wonderful experience of life in NZ so far and have had the pleasure of regular baby-sittings for our 2 lovely grand-daughters and then fitting in boating/fishing and golf when weather allows. Best of luck to any other parents coming out here.
