Wouldn't get to excited the allocation has dropped to just 1000 a year with a requirement of the sponsoring child earning over 100k and even higher for a couple wanting to sponsor

I'm not sure if this is intentional to favour a lone parent (who may be in more need of support from a child) or just a reflection of the higher costs.
As I read it at the moment a couple who earn $100k each can bring over two parents.
I haven't worked out yet how a couple could bring over both sets of parents.
Presumably twice the price.
No tariff listed for 3 or 4 parents. :-)
From a UK perspective it looks as though this blocks off parents with pensions and savings funding their own immigration. The child(ren) need to be high earners.
I'm not sure of the logic, unless it is to only retain the high earners who might otherwise go back to the UK to look after ageing parents.
This was one of the original reasons for the category, I think.
Perhaps to stop affluent parents sponsoring children to emigrate to NZ as a visa ticket?
No doubt it will be clearer once they start the process.
We have had our email, anyway.
