Older parents of an 11 year old looking to emigrate
 

Hi everyone,

We are a family of three (young) 50 year olds with a son of 11 in year 6. We have now decided its now or never to emigrate to NZ.
My Husband is in IT as a developer/software engineer and has a degree and is on the list and I am currently a school chef but I only have the first part of my city and guilds catering exam.
My Husband seems to have 100 points and have he's been talking to a recruitment specialist regarding jobs....
Are we likely to be approved??
We r in a good financial position which makes it easier for us but dont want to go through the whole process if we haven't a chance.
Also which way do we apply for things?
We are looking at a skilled migrant visa.
Any help greatly received;)

Hi and welcome

If at all possible I would suggest that you husband comes over and see if he can secure a job. My husband is also in IT and after many months of talking to agencies and getting the "yeah no problem finding you a job" nothing came of it, he even had one agency telling him they had put him forward when they hadn't. So he came over and stayed with a friend and within two days had a job offer and started the next week on a temp visa. hey do like to do their coffee meeting chats over here.
It then took just over 3mths to get the ITA approved. We had the EOI in the pool with 115 points and updated it to job offer which took us over the 140 and instant selection. did mean we lived apart for a few months but thats just the way it panned out for us.

as for you, I also worked in school catering and have found not many schools in our area go in for school sit down dinners. But some do have tuck shops that provide quick and easy snacks and you would have to do a food handling/safety course, which is a couple of hundred dollars from what I can remember.
