NZ WHV Query

Hi all,

I have a query regarding NZ working holiday visas, I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere online...

So I visited NZ back in 2013 on a working holiday visa, which was undoubtedly the best experience of my life to date, I was there for 9/10 months before returning to the UK with the intention of going back out within a matter of weeks - however, as is often the case in life I was hit with some unforeseen circumstances which meant I had to stick around, these included a wedding and a funeral amongst other things.

My question is, could I now apply to extend the visa to the full 23 months or have I left it too long and missed the boat? My instincts tell me this is the case but just wanted confirmation from someone who knows for sure.

Either way I will still try to get back out there as it is my dream to live there permanently and start a family in what I consider to be the best country on the planet! I am close to becoming a fully qualified QS so will maybe look at this as an option as i'm sure I will be able to find work in Christchurch.

Thanks for reading :D

Re: NZ WHV Query

no the WHV has a set time limit on it of either 12 or 23mths from the date the visa was activated. Even if you where to extend it you could only work for 2mths as you are only allowed to work for 12mths out of the 23.

As for the QS qualification I'm sure you know it needs to be at Bachelor level with at least 3 - 5 year post qualification experience, dependant on what visa you apply for.

I see, thanks for clearing that up. I'm currently studying towards a degree in quantity surveying on a day release basis whilst working for a main contractor over here, my only concern is i'll have to work for another 3 years in the UK, despite having 6 years in the industry under my belt already. Is this set in stone or is it possible to secure a job offer with less than 3 years post qualification experience?
