NZ skilled migrant - claiming points for self-employment as work experience?
 

Was wondering if anybody here has experience with this. I have 10+ years of experience as a systems administrator - which is on the Recognised Qualifications List, fits on the Absolute Shortage List and is in a Future Growth area. However, all this experience has been gained while working full time as self-employed for clients in UK. Has anybody been in this situation (self-employment), and would you happen to know if this is acceptable as work experience - or would they expect it to be in a full time job as an employee? I've read the various FAQ's on NZ immigration, but can't seem to spot a clear answer.

If anybody has applied based on self-employed experience, I'm hoping they might have some direct experience and could share it. I'm thinking of trying to find out before submitting the EOI - no point in proceeding if I don't stand a chance, I suppose. Thank you.

You would need to have proof of this, i.e. wage slips, invoices or if you have them contracts etc.

Its all about the paperwork and proof, so if you can provide the proof I dont see there would be any problem in that respect.

Thanks ellenarosemary. I can certainly provide them with 10 years worth of invoices to clients - no problem there :-)

Perhaps ask the company to write a letter detailing your job description, hours, duties etc - as I said the more paperwork to support your application the better.

We supplied invoices, customer refs, end of year a/cs and tax return info.

We also asked any main contractors for a reference detailing what the work was.
