NZ citizen partner work visa question

Hi, can anyone tell me when an approved visa gets activated? Is it on application approval and your two years starts straight away, or do you have a defined time period to use it? Or can you specify when you plan to arrive? Couldn't get a straightforward answer from NZ immigration so thought I'd see what your experience is? Thanks in advance. Tracee

its activated on when you enter NZ, you will have a set time to activate the visa as set out on your approval.
