Nursing Qualifications - help!

Hi everyone, I'm after some advice please.

I am a paediatric nurse with 11 years post graduate experience looking to go to New Zealand for a minimum of two years to get a bit of life experience. I hold a DipHE (Nursing Studies) gained from a UK university. Can anyone tell me if this is enough to get me registered with the NZ Nursing Council or would I need to top up to a degree? I have tried emailing them but have yet to get any response.

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Nursing Qualifications - help!

No one will be able to give you a definitive answer as it comes down to what the NZ nursing council say. from looking at the skill requirement on the immigration site it states "A relevant recognised qualification which is at, or above, the qualification level on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework. The qualification must correspond to the skill level indicated for that occupation in the Australian New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO)
OR
The relevant work experience that the ANZSCO indicates may substitute the required qualification
OR
The relevant requirements specified in the Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) for your occupation (if your occupation is included in the LTSSL)
OR
Five years of relevant work experience."

so it does all depend if the Nursing council see that your work experience covers it.

Re: Nursing Qualifications - help!

Sorry, it's not down to NZQA, it's whether the Nursing Council of New Zealand, see your qualification as comparable to a New Zealand Bachelor of Nursing. All applications are individually assessed. If you check out these forums, you will see that there have been UK Diploma nurses who have gained NZ registration this year.

Good luck with your application.
