Default Non-related degree & C'church

hello everyone, i am hoping to escape the uk and been combing through the immi website but can someone help clear this up for for me.

I work in IT, web developer but I have a non-related degree (geography).

My question is does this degree count for anything or would I be in the same situation if I didn't have one at all?

I understand that to enter the EOI pool it wouldn't count as it's not related so I'll probably have to seek employment first. If I secure a job then my experience and job offer should up my points as the job is on the long term skills list and future growth area.

Secondly would heading to Christchurch, a city I love, help my cause as I understand there has been a bit of an exodus since last years tragic events. Thks heaps!

OK, I think I have finally figured it out - for future note to anyone searching on this I believe your qualification only counts if it is relevant, which kind of makes sense as you wouldn't hire a doctor with an accountancy degree!

Any opinions on the job situation in C'church? Are they only looking for builders/construction?

we were initially told by a Immigration Advisor , that my husbands degree wouldn't count as it was not in the field of his work but when we spoke to NZ house about it they said it did and we submitted with it on the forms. needless to say we never used the IA and just spoke to NZ house staff about things we were unsure of.

he has just informed me:

"my degree counted for 50 points because it was a recognised qualification. It would have been an additional 50 points had it been in the area of skills shortage"

Also check seek.co.nz and trademe.co.nz for vacancies. Will give you a good idea of what jobs are in demand at the moment.

Christchurch is still a busy place IMO. Been here 6 months now and lots of industry and retail has moved outwards to the suburbs. I think it helps if you know somebody here on the ground when looking for work, I've been told many a time that its not what you know its who you know.
