medicals in nz... any advice?

hi,

we're planning on having the medicals done on arrival in auckland as we've heard they can be completed in days and are cheaper than the uk. can anyone tell me if i have to get a job offer before we have the medicals? what type of medical is it that the nzi require? and if anyone has any contact details for doctors performing the required medicals.

thanks paul & family.

No, you do not need a job offer to have the medicals done.

The medicals will involve a doctor going over your health history. Your blood pressure will be checked, your ears looked at, the inside of your mouth peered at, your lungs and heart listened to, your pulse checked, that sort of stuff. Blood will be drawn and an x-ray taken. If you have any children they also must have medicals done, but they get to skip the x-ray and blood tests.

Sorry, can't help with the name of doctors in Auckland as I live on the South Island.

thanks for the advice. we're planning on travelling around the country for a couple of weeks or so when we arrive. we will be in the south island at some point so if you do have any details of recommended doctors? that info will be useful, as we may get the medicals done there.

thanks paul.

Hi Paul,
for immigration purposes you can go to any doctor in NZ, so you literally just pick one in the area you are staying.
