Medicals - more info!

We submitted our ITA 19th May. Got a letter back saying needed more info on youngest son (x-ray copy) and a medical report for oldest son's Osgood Schlatters (growing pains really!) 30th May. Duly sent that back and have now received a letter dated 9th July asking for orthopaedic review of Osgoods and an allergist review of his asthma and allergies. They have given us until 30th July to get this!

Osgoods treatment is paracetamol and rest. He had an anaphylactic shock 3 years ago. The hospital docs said it wasn't worth testing him as they had no idea what caused it. He hasn't had one since but carries an epipen.
We don't have private medical insurance and have no cash in the kitty to get these reviews done privately!

Any ideas??? They have only given us just under 3 weeks and say if we don't get this info they will make decision based on info they have!!!

Re: Medicals - more info!

Can you not go to the consultant at the hospital and ask him if he can make a referral to an orthopaedic doc who can see him at the hospital, explaining why and the time constraints you are under? Have you had a report from the doc who saw your son when he had his anaphylactic shock stating that at the time he saw no reason to pursue this? Also a copy of medical files from GP showing that he has not needed treatment for this since? I know that most GP's have a summary sheet on each patient,so you may only need this depending on how extensive it is. My GP charges £15 for this, and £50 for each full file to be copied( that is the max they are allowed to charge you ). Can you get in touch with NZIS and ask why such a short time scale and explain your situation? They may be able to extend if having difficulty getting your son seen as quickly ( and as cheaply) as possible.

Hope this helps, can't think of anything else to offer.

Re: Medicals - more info!

Thanks Phyllis. Have contacted our case officer who says she can give us a short extension. Also asked if an in depth letter from GP will be ok but she just says that medical assessor may throw that out and request specialist letter especially concerning Osgood Schlatter. If only they Googled it, they would see - it's nothing serious - there is no treatment except paracetamol and he will grow out of it shortly!!!
