Medicals before EOI?
We are in the process of completing our EOI and so far we have over 140 points (my OH has a job offer) but we can't submit it until we have our child's passport sorted out (form requires passport details) which on the fast track system can take up to 7 days to process.
Given that our EOI should be automatically selected, do you think it would be UNWISE to get medicals done in advance of EOI submission or 'successful' confirmation? Just thinking how we could make up for the delay caused by our oversight. Thanks B  |
Re: Medicals before EOI?
We are now filling in our ITA and have found that it isn't the medicals that take the time (unless you get a referral) its the police checks (especially from abroad if you need them) and NZQA if you have entered a qualification on your EOI - that's the one that seems to take the time.

Re: Medicals before EOI?
Hi Wilderbeest
Try doing the passport in 4 hours, need to book an appointment but its quick and if your passport office is anyway near the shops!!!!!! I had to do this for me last year. Quickest option.... I have heard that they are doing a simular quick check with the police checks not sure if this is available yet but it apparently takes two week instead of the 40 days. |
Re: Medicals before EOI?
Hi there,
I am in the process of collating my ITA documents; and I would agree with Liff as the Police certificates and NZQA will usually take the longest time  I had to apply for the Malaysian Police certificate (lived there fore almost 2 years) and I am still waiting for it since two months  On the other hand, the NZQA report took me 1 month to arrive. I have received my Medical last week after 7 days of waiting. Medical certificate will not take that long if every thing goes smooth. Best of luck :) Sam |
Re: Medicals before EOI?
The medicals are valid for only 3 or 4 months, so if you process is delayed for any reason, you need to have them done again. With you having a job offer, this is unlikely but still possible. I'd wait for the ITA as it is not the medicals that are hard to get but the other paperwork.

Thanks, sound advice everyone!
What typically do you need to provide for the NZQA? proof of qualifications? |
Re: Medicals before EOI?
Hi again Wilderbeest,
check out the NZQA website http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/for-international/index.html.They list all the documents you need there. |

Re: Medicals before EOI?
Personally I'd leave the medical for now because of the shortness of its validity as the others have said.
Some good news on police checks though...they have improved the system for NZ as per this link http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp - no longer takes 40 days and there is a superfast option too. Only downside is that you have to supply photos and address evidence and have someone vouch for you as for a passport application but once you've done all that, it seems to work well. If you are near the selection date and you will have the new passport in 7 days, can't you just supply the old details and then update it when the new one is received? That way you don't have to wait for the following month's selection process. |

They only have a shelf life of 3 months. |
