Medicals!!

 We have booked our medicals for friday 19th! my OH is starting to worry now even though he has no reason to. We are both fitting fit, the only thing he is worried about is his eye sight. What do they say about your eyes? Are there any certain things they do or test for?

Hi,

Does OH have any particular health issues already with his eyes?

If not, then all they do is a standard eye test i.e. with us they pointed to some of the letters on a chart & we had to shout them out! If you wear corrective lenses/glasses, this test is done twice i.e. once without & then once with.

Obviously if there are any other medical conditions that may already exist e.g. diabetes etc. then this may be different, but you say that you are fighting fit so assuming that includes any current conditions!

Normally everyone is worried about weight, BMI & waist size!! Best of luck when you go.:D

just like the above poster said, just basic eye test.

my OH wears glasses and can see almost NOTHING without them - and he passed fine.

i guess the worst that can happen is they find a particular problem, but that won't mean you can't go to NZ, it just means you may have to have extra tests and get a specialist report etc.

My OH has a lazy eye and does wear glasses ocasionally when watching tv but he says that they dont make that much difference. I told him that there is nothing to worry about and he will be fine but he is starting to panic, and at the mo thats the last thing i need!! :(

Oh dear . Slap him with a wet kipper & tell him to behave

NZIS will not be interested in his lazy eyeball. The doctor may mark it down but it won't go against him in any way.

Show him this if it will help.........

I was in a bad RTA decades ago and following this had one side of my face basically rebuilt. The RTA also, among other problems, left me with a severely damaged right eye. Several operations later, I have some sight in it, but not as you people would know it :p In the latter years I've had a cataract removed from it and laser surgery. It has double vision, is extremely light sensitive and the vision it does have does not extend to peripheral sight My bottom eyelid does not close properly. Glasses can do nothing for it. People , when they first meet me often poke a finger at me eyeball to tell me summat - mascara - is in it. It's a scar !

NZIS couldn't have given a monkeys about me eyeball and I cruised the medical. No probs. ;) Deliberately stuck in the wink smilie there.

One thing he may have to consider is the driving test, although I am not sure if the rules have changed.
In NZ, you sit an eye test. One eye test for each eye. Of course there was no way my right eye could pass this test, so I had to go to an optometrist and have tests there to ascertain the quality of my overall vision. Me and the eyeballs passed this with no probs once I had explained the history of the blummin' eyeball.

I had my medicals just over a month ago and everything was fine except I was told that I needed to have my eyes tested again and get new glasses. It wasn't a problem though at all. I don't even know if it was noted or not, but I was passed without a problem, and INZ have passed me without a problem. Your OH will be fine.

hi we recently had our medicals and took our specs with us - it was no big deal and we only had to read the first 2 lines anyway.

good luck I am sure you will be fine but I know everything passes through your mind .

My biggest worry was which knickers to wear - but we've already done that one !!:D
