Medical Waivers
 

Its been a while since I've been on here, but having lived in NZ for the last two years we recently decided to go for residency, done the ITA and all papers, medicals, etc. went in back in Dec 09 via an Agent.

We have now been told that the medical assessor has advised that I do not meet the acceptable standard of health for entry to NZ on the basis that I am likely to impose significant costs or demands on NZ's health services.

Will be discussing further with our Agent here, but in the meantime I am keen to hear from any of you fine folk that may have been granted residency under a Medical Waiver...as it may well come to that.

I know we can probably get other opinions medically but I know the result is likely to be the same, just interested to know how many Medical Waivers have been granted. Is it a common thing or pretty remote. I know each of us are different, but just appreciate any info, encouragement that can be had from this as the weekend has been pretty rough since finding out. :(

Elsie, I have no specific info to offer but a search indicates that you may find it best to locate an immigration agent with medical waiver submission expertise and experience.

That may or may not be the agent you have but you seem to have had very little warning of this so I suspect your agent may not be experienced in waivers???

Was there no warning in the medical report that you submitted in Dec?

Thanks Simonsi...I had hoped to respond earlier, but its been pretty full on.

Unfortunately, this was a condition that came to light in February of this year.

Im certainly not knocking our Agent; they have provided a lot of guidance and has been informative on the waiver front as you would expect. I was just interested to know first hand of anyone who had been granted a Residency under a medical waiver.

Things are a little brighter, we have now submitted our feedback to the medical assessors comments and the major factor for us at the moment is that the medication I take has now dramatically reduced in cost. This can only now help support our application in a more positive light.

Now the waiting game again...for the second assessor to make a judgement call.
