Default Medical referral, how long?

I failed my medical back in Aug 08 because of my BMI. After loosing weight, I sent in my new medical this week, and my CO has sent the results to the MA for his approval.

Does anybody know what the turn around is now?

Thanks

Kags - if memory serves, I think their SLA is 4 weeks. They usually get it done sooner though.

Hope it works out well for you - fingers crossed!

Can i just ask how strict they are on your medicals i have lost some weight about 1 stone now my BMI is about 32 last time i checked, but i read some where that they measure you waist and i think that mine maybe still over the size they want....is it 88cm for woman, just wondered would they reject on that, am not having medicals for a while so still have time to work on it but would like to know if anyone has the answer.

Good luck with your referral kags

If your waist size is over the limit on the medical form, they will ask for a fasting blood test, regardless of BMI. My waist was just over but my BMI was 22.4 - still had to have the extra blood test.

Thanks for that will keep on losing the weight and hopefully will get down to the required measurement before we have the medicals, shame they don`t allow for us ladies having children...thus making us rather prone to a larger waist in some cases lol

Default Re: Medical re*****l, how long? up date

received the following email from CO today:

medical has been returned to me and the Medical Assessor has requested further information before they can make their decision on her standard of health. Specifically, they have said:

"Well done re: weight. Still has abnormal LFTs [liver function tests] therefore [to see] specialist for review [and report on] - diagnosis, treatment, prognosis"

I just feel that each time we get over a barrier, another is there to upset the journey.

Quick question: When I had my medical should the doctor at the centre informed me that there where problems with my liver.

Hi

Don't let them get you down - you'll get there.

I have a feeling we may have the same hassle after my partner had an irregular heart rhythm 3 weeks before the medical. We are arranging a cardiology opinion just in case.

Keep your chin up

Hi Becky,

Thanks, I got an appointment today to see a specialist, and have scan tomorrow £550.00 it has cost. The consultant just laughed when he saw the results.

Keeping everything crossed at the moment

Had my Liver Scan today, was given the all clear, just got to send the results into CO.

I have also been granted a 1 year visitor visa, if my PR doesn't come before my OH and son fly to NZ.

I am applying via a Parent Visa and found out by chance about 2 years' ago that my Liver Function Test was abnormal when I had a routine blood test - as I knew I was going to have my medical in February 2009 I asked to be referred to a Consultant in a Liver Unit which my GP did and had two liver scans and a vast array of blood tests - my diagnosis is now if probable non alcoholic fatty liver disease and I asked the Consultant to write a letter "To whom it may concern" giving his opinion of my long term prognosis. I now have this and will hand it to the doctor who will do my medical next month. Hopefully this will suffice and I will not need any more tests - the only one left is a liver biopsy according the my Consultant and he would not do that as I do not have "abnormal" enough results for this. I also suffer from hypertension controlled by medication and I have got a printout from the Practice Nurse in my surgery on headed GP notepaper with my last 4 BP readings. I think the more information you can gather together before you have your medical will help the Medical Officer in London assess your health. Obviously if you are going in on a Works Visa/job offer you only have a short window of opportunity to get all these things sorted out but I was in the fortunate position to have time to get mine sorted. I have also lost 3 stone in weight which is also difficult to do when someone offers you a job over the phone like they did to my daughter who is now a nurse in New Zealand and had about 5 weeks to get over there!!

If our medicals go ok and our Visa's are granted we then have the problem of selling our house - with all this doom and gloom we might never get to New Zealand to be with our 2 children who have permanent residency over there and our lovely grandaughter whom we left last Sunday to fly home to drab, dull old England - Brrrrrrrrrrrrr - been in shorts for 6 weeks now back to woolly socks.

Just had an email from CO, medical has now been approved.

The only thing it is now to late to get my PR because I had to come over on a temporary visa. Have got to start the whole process again:curse:
