Default Medical dilemma

Anyone knows if scoliosis is a problem for the NZ immigration health check?
I have a quite severe scoliosis that is not a real problem for me, I don't have back pain, motion problems or limitations and from the age of 18 years old my condition is stabilized. It is just a cosmetic problem, I can work, run, do sports, etc.

What do you think about it? I am quite worried about the panel doctor response...

Thank You in advance.

I HAD A LOOK ON THEIR WEBSITE FOR YOU ALAS THERE IS NOT MUCH ABOUT IT. May I suggest you call their premium rate helpline or alternatively go to NZ House in WC1 and ask them directly about your issue. Sorry about the cap locks!! Good luck!

Hi there & welcome to our wee NZ forum.

I would expect New Zealand Immigration Service to give your application a medical referral. That means that your medical would go for review with one of their medical assessors. In basic terms what New Zealand would be looking for is whether or not you would cost the NZ health authority xxxx amount of dollars in the future. That's in very simple terms.

If you plan to submit an application then you should start to gather specialist reports to prove as best you can that the condition is stable and will remain so.

People have had their medicals referred to an NZIS medical assessor for being overweight & one person had a referral because their son had Osgood Schlatter problems ( growing pains).

A4.10.2 Assessment of whether an applicant for a residence class visa is unlikely to impose significant costs on New Zealand's health services
  1. The requirement that an applicant for a residence class visa must be unlikely to impose significant costs on New Zealand's health services is not met if, in the opinion of an Immigration New Zealand medical assessor, there is a relatively high probability that the applicant's medical condition or group of conditions will require health services costing in excess of $25,000.Note: Assessment will be in terms of current costs with no inflation adjustment.
  2. In the case of acute medical conditions, the medical assessor will provide an opinion on whether there is a relatively high probability that the condition or group of conditions will require health services costing in excess of NZ$25,000 within a period of four years from the date the assessment against health requirements is made.
  3. In the case of chronic recurring medical conditions, the medical assessor will provide an opinion on whether, over the predicted course of the condition or group of conditions, there is a relatively high probability that the condition or group of conditions will require health services costing in excess of NZ$25,000.

Thanks BEVS!

So, what I would like to do is to obtain a medical report from a Panel Doctor to certify that my situation is stabilized since I was 18 years old and that I have no problem whatsoever and then, when I will be assessed by the Panel Doctor for PR, I will show him that report. Does it make sense? Ta-ta for now!

No. What you will do is obtain a specialist report & prognosis from your consultant + in depth details of your medical records.

The panel doctor will simply follow the NZIS procedure & then add further comments as necessary. This report will be in a sealed envelope. You will add your independent medical information to that panel doctor NZIS medical & then await NZIS decision on the medical referral or not.

Hi Anthony, can't help with your question, but may be able to help with you not having to pay £1.00 a minute to NZ immigration.

I used 'say no to 0870 (0845) numbers' which gives a geographic number (local rates) for places which try and make you use premium numbers. Its useful for all sorts of numbers.

The one I found for NZ house London is 01245 454448.

I know you are in London and Aberdeen is not handy but the doc we saw for our medicals seems "Very relaxed" Fortunately we are all in good health but it did raise a few questions in my mind. It seemed to me that if you are paying enough for the meds, you get the rubber stamp. Now I should point out that he is a lovely man and this was just my perspective and yes it may be controversial but I still found it surprising. Hopefully if your health is not giving you any problems it will all be fine anyway

Don't call the premium rate helpline. You wait four minutes before getting a menu - that's four pounds, and then I got cut off!
