Medical and cancer in the family

I am about to see the doctor to get my medicals to apply for residency.

My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer last year and he is going through chemotherapy. I don't feel like talking about this. Indeed, I never talk about this. Its like...if I don't talk it's not happening...and writing it on a document feels like giving up on my dad expectations to live. I know...it sound really immature.

Do I need to declare it if my dad is currently in good health?

Hi Mel, As Far as I know, I had to declare illnesses in the family as they ask you the health of your immediate family, but it didn't go against me as I was in good health, so I think surely it would be the same all round, good luck.

Yes the medical form asks that and it must be completed and initialed by the doctor carrying out the medical.

Even though you have to say it, it won't mean you are referred or anything. It's not an inherited condition.

I am sorry to hear about your dad
