Medical Assessor Query

Hi All,

I've read most of the post's here but wanted to find out if anyone had a particular experience? We have submitted our application for residency and our application has been referred to the medical examiner in London as I had a hip resurfacing done 6 years ago. I have a job offer in NZ and the company is desperate for me to start. Questions - has anyone been turned down due to a joint replacement and how long has it taken for referrals? Would you recommend submitting another specialist report?

Our case officer has done an initial check of everything else and it all passed so its just the medical with a big question mark!

Thanks!

Any operation whatsoever in your entire life generates a referral to the MA. If it was a total cure and you have no probs, you will be fine. Expect to have to collect a few hospital reports though......

Thanks so much for your quick reply Jan, our CA is now on leave so I have a bit of a wait until we hear what the verdict is!

I've had a knee op 16 years ago to remove some gristle behind the patella and also had my gall bladder taken out last year both key hole surgery - I'm assuming I will need reports for these? If so do you know from whom and do you have to pay extra??

Ta in advance.

I had to get reports from my NHS surgeon/registrar, and though it was just reports, I had to pay. This is partly because the consultants see it as private work I think. I recall it was about 80-100 pounds  per letter

Couldnt your GP comment on things do you know? I had my ops in two different hospitals? Anything to squeeze more money out of you!

No sorry - NZIS always ask for specialist reports, GPs are generalists.

Sounds as though your knee op was so long ago, reports may not be requested. However, I think you should expect they will - and the doc doing your medical will have no idea what NZIS will do with his/her info by the way, whcih can be frustrating too!
