Has anybody married a kiwi? whats the score? is it a formality that i will get in or do I have to work hard for it?

Being married is not a necessity and accounts for nothing much really, it certainly won't give you automatic right to accompany your Kiwi spouse into NZ as a permanent resident.

You'd have to prove two years of living together in defacto type relationship, with hard evidence of financial commitments, photos or any proof that you can provide that basically shows that you share a life with each other, bills to the same house etc. Married people have to prove the same, even if you're married for twenty years with seven kids together.

You'll have to have lived together for at least 12m in order to gain residency via partnership. Married or not. A marriage certificate is only another bit of proof that you are in a relationship and on its own does not mean much. Bojangles has said the rest really.

So if you want to get in this way then you'll have to put up with her for at least a year and prove it
