MA results are in.
Hi All,
received letter from Imigration this morning.
Not very good news.
Results from MA staing OH helth requirements unsatisfactory:-
BMI 41.7 with established metabolic syndrome
Abnormal Serum Tests
Hypertension
Glucose Metabolism not provided.
When had medicals done, wasnt happy with Doc. think he got the BMI calculation wrong. we had calculated our way and got a figure of 38.
I know its still high, but was a lower value.
recently had another Cholersteral test, with been on herbal remedies and porridge for months it hasnt lower the results from 7.1
Her own Doctor has recommended a strong course of Statins 40mg tablets.
but with the side effects, not happy with her taking these.
so, what happens next? it that it ? mentions that we could have a 2nd assesment or to get a medical waiver.
what really bugs me reading all the available info is, you take private medical health care, so if anything happens I staill have to pay for treatment, While I am the principal applicant she cant and is not claiming points for ITA.
I'm over weight myself. but I have passed the assesments.
Not looking forward to breaking the bad news when she comes home from work tonight.

What a bummer
Statins have the most effect on Cholesterol, would it not be worth trying them ....not everyone experiences side effects, could ask GP to monitor closely and adjust if any evidence of side effects.
It might also be a good idea to check out British Heart Foundation or Eat Well.gov .uk web sites, if not already done, they give good info on diet which is next best thing to statins to reduce cholesterol.
Good luck.....don't give up yet! ....follow Bev's advice, look @ Will & Tina's thread.

Hi Bevs,
thanks for the quick reply.
Just spoken with C/O. seemed a nice Gentleman on phone.
Seems if we put together a report ie "sell our selves" and get a report from her GP that would go a long way to be granted a Waiver.
Glad I actually spoke on phone. hate reading paperwork. feels you need to be a Solicitor somtimes as I can offent reading things differently.
got until feb 10th to get my Homework Essay in.
p.s. failed my CSE English exam.......
Thanks

Hi B.
got mixed feelings and reports on Statins.. Her dad is on the 10mg course. and that has has an effect. muscle pain in leg.
to look at him you would never know anything was wrong. ex miner who cant sit still, always busy pottering around.
so need to sit down and compile a plan of action. rather it was me had the problems as Principal applicant not OH. the upset.......
glad going away for weekend for birtrhday.
ah well, things certainly come to try us.
best part is, she keeps getting phone calls and emails from NZ for updates on when we are coming down. Been told by C/O that this would be taken into consideration too.
HAVE A GOOD DAY TO ALL.

Re look at the Statins.....the vast majority of men are now on them and suffer no side effects. They are blamed for every slight muscular problem we have...I know I have been there and proven wrong.....

Hi Angela,
thanks for the reply, main concern was the 40mg course of tablets... just like that. no proper consultation from GP. just wrote out the perscription.

Re: MA results are in.
Hi Im sorry for the bed news.
I have to say though is this not a family history problem? you say her dad has high colesterol is their a history of other 'linked' problems that come with that?
I'd say that with the over weight bit is what they are thinkling off long term from a NZ health burden point of view?
dont shoot me im just saying what i'm sure others are thinking not trying to upset you but cant do the cotton wool thing just write as I see it.
I would say it's certainly NOT the end of your dream but maybe a wake up call that a few things need to be done to get there.
as hard as it seems now this gives you a figure and now a target at which to aim at health wise and in turn this will I hope not only lead to a drop in the rather high colesterol level but also the chance to start your dream.
I would highly recccomend starting drinking green tea at least four cups a day and also going on a really good detox, have a look at 'blessed herbs' I did this years ago and it was very hard not eating for a week but it changed my life big time lowered my colesterol levels and whats more gave me a kick start into a much healthier diet.
Im not saying its a defo worker but it worked for me.
Another thing I would say is (and again dont shoot me I dont know you so am summising here if Im wrong sorry) get fit together and both aimto lose weight. This can only help you both and will look good on any further medicals as showing you can and have made an attempt to change.
as for the private medical insurance the problem with that is that its something that you can cancel as its a choice thing so i'd say it's a good thing they dont look at that as whats to say many would take it out just to get here only to cancel it and then become a burden to the NZ health system.
Cant tell me they wouldnt just as there are those who use NZ to get itto aussie via PR.
I really hope you push forward with this as it's truly not the end just means alot more effort is needed and I have read of folks with many seemingly worse conditions 'getting in' so DONT give up.
hope you dont take offence at the opinions above.
say it as I think it good and bad.

Re: MA results are in.
It's a tough one & I sympathise massively, I know for sure that I'd rather not be taking meds that I didn't want or that gave me side effects.
But 7.1 is a significantly raised cholesterol, no matter which way you look at it.
10mg Simvastatin is a tiny dose, & not often used now, I tend to see 20mg used most often as the starting dose, then tweaked up or down as needed depending on blood results after 3m. It is pretty standard procedure to recheck the cholesterol & LFTs after that time, so that'll give a good indication of the effect it's having.
I know it's a horrible situation, but this boils down to just how much you want to get to NZ. They provide a huge manner of hoops....it's up to individuals as to whether they want to jump through them . Personally I'd say take the darned pills, some people have side effects, but they are genuinely a minority. Your OH may experience side effects, in which case she stops taking them.... equally she may very well not. They will be the quickest & easiest way of getting her cholesterol down. Diet & exercise as well, absolutely, will help massively, but if her Dad has a raised cholesterol as well she may have familial hypercholesterolaemia....in which case there's a genetic factor involved, and diet/ exercise can make a difference....but not enough.
Look at it this way.....once she's here no one can force her to take the meds, so she's looking at enduring it in order to pass a medical. I'd never, ever suggest that anyone threaten their health to get to NZ...but this is established as current "best practice", and I'm fairly convinced that the GP has prescribed them because he/she feels they're necessary based on cholesterol results...not because he's sympathetic to the NZ dream.
The BMI thing I'm afraid you'll have to accept. I've never yet met a GP who didn't use a calculator thing to assess BMI, generally online, occasionally little cardboard charts. Assuming he got an accurate height & weight you'll just have to go with his BMI calculation.
Sorry it's not the news you wanted and has just added a whole heap of additional stress for you. All I can say is wish you the very, very best of luck with it all.

Hi All,
No constructive critisism is turned down....
Call a spade a spade..
thanks for the ideas, the quetsion mark area was her own GP perscribing the 40mg dosage. This GP is unaware of NZ dream. was just a routine 6 mths check for blood pressure which she takes the smallest dose required. Blood pressure is maintained at the right levels now, but what we have read from the C/O letter that the MA is not happy with this either.
my concern is the time factor. how long do we get to achieve the magical numbers? if its say over 12mths we have to restart again the application process, then I loose points due to my age. I go into the next age bracket ergo lower points awarded.
my head hurts now....

I would just say keep going .. when you get here you will feel better for being fitter & healthier -so you can enjoy all the outdoors more. Honestly where we are I have not seen anyone push a pram -they all run & when I walked (very slowly ) up Mount Maunganui the first time there were spritely 70+ year olds telling me I was nearly there !! Join a slimming club with exercise for support like Rosemary Conleys or a gym - your GP may even be able to 'prescribe' this for you . but I agree do whatever it takes -it will be worth it

Re: MA results are in.
Sorry to hear your wifes med has been referred... my hubbys was too so know how disheartening this can be
It took us 3 -4 months and plenty of tests and GP reports plus a specialists report - but it did pay off and his med was passed
I know a few on here struggling with their BMI swore by a porridge diet, it seemed to really help and theres probably a thread about it too... I know Will and Tina done really well on it and got BMI down to passable level
Wishing you the best of luck anyway Celtic

I agree with the above dont give up just have to push foraward.
I would say however that there isnt a magic pill for this sort of stuff.
Im not a big reality tv watcher but have to say that the people on the 'Biggest Looser' dont loose all that weight taking a pill and a bowl of porridge for breakfast they loose it with bloody hard work and determination!
adopt that attitude and if you really want to in a matter of a few hard months maybe results will help!
good luck
george

Hi All,
just finishing off writing a letter to GP to see if he can write a Medical report on past and present medical history and a opinion of future problems.
May I ask if anyone has had the similar experience in compiling a letter of support to provide NZIS to help with our Application and a Medical Wavier?
thanks
