Labour's proposed changes to immigration
My friend who lives in NZ sent me this link this morning as she had just seen it on the news and knows we are looking to make the move next year.
Labour Immigration Changes
What are everyones thoughts?
Are the changes likely to happen? If so how soon?
Not really up on NZ politics so don't know how fast or slow the system is.
Quite worried as this has the potential to put a stop to us moving, as we would be coming over on a WTR visa but not until next year.
Or is this just part of there manifesto and not likely to happen anytime soon and I'm worrying about nothing.

Hard to say.
This is Labours 2017 Manifesto relating to Immigration so more of a declaration of intent in the lead up to the general election held late in 2017 where labour formed a coalition and got in power with NZ First and the Green Party. So far our new Labour leader and prime minister has steered away from speaking about Immigration issues other than to say there are no immediate changes but changes are likely very soon.
Anything could happen but that is always the case. The one thing you can always guarantee is that change will happen. Immigration goal posts will always move. If you want to avoid the risk, get the application in now or sooner. If you want things to happen in life you have to make it happen. If you wait around it is likely future progress will just trample all over your best laid plans.

nothing coming through on my Immigration media/news feed so not hit them yet. If it does it could happen within a couple of weeks of declaring the change or months there is no hard or fast rule as to lead time for changes.

Re: Labour's proposed changes to immigration
The reality of wanting to both reduce immigration and at the same time increase anything (take house building for one example, tree planting for another), is starting to hit them. They may not work it out before the next election, they'll hopefully work out soon that tax isn't the answer the everything either (you still need people to build houses and plant trees...).
