KTSSL - MA under review
 

Hi All

My visa has been approved under the LTSSL, my eldest child has also had her Student Visa approved but my wife's Medical has been referred to a MA in NZ for review.

My panel doctor has indicated that the condition flagged on the Medical is neither serious or costly but nevertheless has to go through the right channels, my youngest daughter is also attached to my wife's application.

If the medical assessment doesn't comeback in time, my CO says that my wife and youngest child can enter NZ on their British passports and gain entry for 6 months (providing they have an exit ticket scheduled for around 5/6 months after entering)

Once we are in NZ, my wife's case can be transferred and her visa issued whilst we are in NZ, has anyone else done this process?

yes we had our medicals referred, myself and my daughters. and we came over on the 6mth visitors visa. we always intended to go back for holiday after the 6mths as it was my eldest sons 21st (he didn't come with us as he is step to my husband who was the main applicant). we came over early January. School started early Feb. We got confirmation from London that we had been provisionally been approved on the 13th Jan, it then went off for secondary checks which at the time were taking longer than the 2 weeks advisded. we got the final approval on 31st Jan. Our file was then transferred over to NZ. we advised the school and showed them the confirmation email and they gave us 2 weeks waiver on the International Student fee to get the visa's into our passports, which gave us to around 21st Feb. We actually got the visa's in the passport on 14th Feb. Would of been 12th but they put the wrong ones in initially but 14th Feb is a better day :D

I did know that our medicals would co back ok. Daughter has CVS but the Consultant in the UK had already signed her off and advised that she would just need particular medication when she had an episode so the paperwork was in the file it just needed a medical assessor to read it. Mine was a bit more strange. the xray apparently had showed up some marks on my lung, this information was given to us by the gentleman we submitted the application to. we went in person and he went through all the paper work and made a off hand comment about my medical being referred. I knew knew no reason as to why until we questioned him about it and he told us the xray had shown up marks. I immediately went to my own GP told her what had been said and she sent me off for another xray that day. Results came back as all clear and it was marks due to me having had pneumonia some year earlier. So we were ready with that information if they delayed my medical. Luckily we didn't need to worry as it was just sent back with no further investigation required, as did my daughters. Did delay the process somewhat though but got there in the end

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience.

Did you need anything specific to clear immigration at Auckland?

Although we are British and we are entitled to enter NZ for 6 months, we obviously want to ensure we have everything to ensure a smooth passage into NZ.

My understanding is that border control will see there is a visa application pending but we would need to ensure we have a ticket showing that after 5/6 months we will depart NZ if visa isn't processed but we doubt this will ever happen.

my understanding is if you don't have a visa in your passport you won't get on the plane in UK if you don't a return ticket or an onward flight. could be wrong but sure I have read it somewhere on here ?

Our experience through Auckland airport was a bit rushed as we had a connecting flight with Jetstar down to Wellington. our flight into Auckland had been delayed so we were escorted rather quickly through all points by a employee at the airport, except waiting for Jetstar as we were caught by a sniffer dog, the MIL had put apples in our luggage (which we had already hastily thrown away not paying $400 per apple fine) but the smell was still there. The airport employee had advised about the apples and was happy to confirm but we still had to open one suitcase and let the dog go over it.

MrsF is correct, if you don't have a visa in your passport and are entering as a visitor under the waiver system then you will need a ticket out of NZ to any country you have the right to enter.

You will not get on the plane out of the UK otherwise. You cannot check in without one, I have seen a few passengers having to buy tickets at the airport because they didn't realise this. Obviously you buy a fully refundable one but it's hassle and relies on you having the cash available! I was always asked for proof before they would issue a boarding pass whenever I entered as a visitor.

The airline gets fined if they transport someone without the correct documents so they're not going to take risks-you don't even get to speak to anyone at NZ immigration!
