Job Offer - Do we need to get skills assessed??
 
Hello All,
I have asked a question on here before and you were all very helpful so thought I'd give it another go!
My husband is a stonemason - this is not on any of the skills needed lists however he has now got a job offer which means we have over 140 points for our EOI. Do we still need to get his skills assessed? If we do then should this be done before we submit our EOI and can anyone tell me how to go about it??

Yes. He will need to have his qualifications assessed by NZQA.

You could try for a preliminary report first as that might be quicker. You could then include the NZQA report number and result in with your EOI. If you do need to have a full assessment then you may well be looking at weeks of wait time.

If you are confident he will gain the required NZQA level for the stonemason trade skill , then pop in the EOI now. It will be an automatic selection from the pool but there will still be a time lag whilst they do some checks. NZIS may contact you about the skill level before sending out an ITA. In which case they will require to see your NZQA report.

As the skill is not on the shortages lists, remember that the NZ employer will need to seek approval in principle from NZIS .
