JOB Needed to support work permit
HELP ME !!
I need a job offer from a new zealand employer before I can get a work permit as this is the best way for myself to move to NZ as I am short of points. Can anyone point me to any employers in the IT job sector? I've been to all the usual job sites but it always says that you need a work permit to apply!! Has anyone just gone over on a holiday visa to find work (and found it)!! |
Re: JOB Needed to support work permit
Hi Andrewmenet.
I am in a similar situation, needing a job offer to boost my points or my ITA Is going nowhere... Which area of IT do you specialise in? And where in NZ do you want to move to? I work in project management, and want to work in C/Church, and people have been very helpful coming up with contacts for me. Would they be any use to you? Jane |

I know they say you have to be in NZ but I got my OH a job trucking off the site and we are still in the UK. You can always go over and secure work from that side of the world as NZIS told us too. Loads of people do it all the time. Nici |
Re: JOB Needed to support work permit
Nici is right. You can certainly come here and get a visitor's permit on arrival and go interview for employment. There is no problem with that.
To get the work permit you have to show that you are qualified for the position and your prospective employer must have pre-approval to hire foreigners or demonstrate to NZIS that no suitable locals could be found and you have the skills that they need. If you do have the goods and the company that wants to hire you can get approval it is simple enough to get a temporary work permit pasted in your passport. For work permits of twelve months or less you won't need medicals or police clearances. However for longer permits or extensions you will need to get these. Good luck. |

Re: JOB Needed to support work permit
Hi Andrewmenet.
With thanks to another poster: for Christchurch- talk to Malcom Dow at Hudson. I would also recommend Michelle Berry/Matt Love Smith at Manpower (christchurch office). Robert Walters are good for Auckland & Wellington.. Best of luck.. big employers here: Telecom Meridian Canterbury District Health Board Christchurch City Council (worth looking at their websites as well for vacancy listings) Also there is a good government website with all govt vacancies Apart from the fact that applying on line seems to be a veeeery long drawn out process (lots of pages for each!), it seems painless enough, and I have submitted several speculative applications today. Good luck, Jane |

Perhaps contact MattH on this site. He runs Wellys IT meetings once a month.
